Established in 1951, the Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) is recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, and is affiliated with the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) and the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).
Our headquarters are located in the heart of New Delhi, from where we coordinate national programs, tournaments, and development initiatives. The VFI is responsible for selecting and managing the Indian national volleyball teams (men and women), organizing the Senior National Volleyball Championships, and implementing grassroots development programs across the country.
Our mission is to elevate the standard of volleyball in India, identify and nurture young talent, provide world-class coaching and infrastructure, and achieve sustained success in international competitions. We work closely with state associations, educational institutions, and corporate partners to build a robust ecosystem for the sport.
The VFI also focuses on promoting beach volleyball, sitting volleyball for para-athletes, and veteran volleyball. We are committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, inclusivity, and sportsmanship.

The Indian Men's Volleyball Team, known as "The Blues," is currently ranked 3rd in Asia. The team has a rich history, including a historic bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Games. Under the guidance of head coach Mr. G.E. Sridharan and captain Mr. Ashwal Rai, the team is known for its disciplined defense and powerful spikes. The core squad trains at the National Volleyball Academy in Chennai, with intensive camps held before major tournaments.
Recent achievements include a silver medal at the 2023 Asian Volleyball Championship and qualification for the 2024 AVC Cup. The team's playing style emphasizes speed, agility, and tactical serving.

The Indian Women's Volleyball Team, "The Tigresses," has shown remarkable progress in recent years, climbing to the 5th spot in the Asian rankings. Led by captain Ms. Priyanka Khedkar and coach Ms. Aparna Roy, the team focuses on a dynamic and attacking game. Key players like setter Rimi Sharma and attacker Sonika Singh have become prominent figures in Asian volleyball.
The team secured a commendable 4th place finish at the 2022 Asian Games and won the South Asian Championship in 2023. The VFI's increased investment in women's volleyball includes specialized strength conditioning programs and international exposure tours to Europe.

The premier domestic volleyball competition in India, featuring teams from all 32 state associations. The 68th edition will be held in Hyderabad from December 15-28, 2024. Over 800 athletes will compete for the prestigious title. The event also serves as a primary talent scouting platform for national team selectors.

Critical tournaments for identifying and nurturing the next generation of volleyball stars. The Sub-Junior (U-17) Nationals will be in Pune, September 2024. The Youth (U-21) Nationals are scheduled for November in Gujarat. These events are integral to our "Vision 2030" plan to build a sustainable talent pipeline.
Winning teams and standout players receive scholarships and invitations to National Coaching Camps. Over 1200 young athletes participated in the 2023 editions.
Youth DevelopmentThe flagship professional league of India, launched in 2025. Featuring 8 franchise-based teams with a mix of Indian and international stars. The league aims to revolutionize the sport's popularity and commercial appeal in the country. The inaugural season will be broadcast live nationwide and streamed globally.
Franchise auctions concluded in March 2024. Cities include Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Kochi, and Chandigarh. The league follows a home-and-away format.

The Volleyball Federation of India and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) have entered into a landmark Memorandum of Understanding to modernize the National Volleyball Academy in Chennai. The ₹15 crore project will include installation of imported synthetic courts, advanced sports science labs, and upgraded athlete dormitories. This initiative is a key part of VFI's long-term athlete development program, aiming to provide Indian players with infrastructure on par with global standards. The renovation is scheduled for completion by December 2024.

Following consistent performances in the 2023-24 season, the Indian Men's Volleyball Team has moved up two places to secure the 35th position in the world, as per the latest FIVB rankings released on Monday. This marks India's highest ranking in the past decade. The team's points were bolstered by its strong showing at the Asian Championship and victory in the four-nation tournament in Malaysia. Head Coach Sridharan praised the team's dedication and highlighted the importance of maintaining this momentum in the upcoming World Championship qualifiers.
April 12, 2024 | Beach Volleyball
The VFI, in partnership with the Tourism Ministry, has announced the 2024 'Spike by the Shore' Beach Volleyball Tour. The tour will visit Goa, Puri, Vizag, Kochi, and Daman between November 2024 and February 2025. Each leg will feature professional competitions, amateur open categories, and youth clinics. The initiative aims to promote beach volleyball as a lifestyle sport and tap into India's vast coastline. Registration for amateur teams opens on June 1, 2024.
Building the future of Indian volleyball from the ground up.
Partnering with over 5,000 schools nationwide to introduce volleyball in physical education curricula. We provide equipment kits, teacher training modules, and organize inter-school zonal championships. The 'Volley Stars' program identifies talent at the U-14 level.
VFI conducts FIVB-endorsed Level 1, 2, and 3 coaching courses across India. Over 1,200 coaches have been certified in the last three years. Our digital coaching portal offers resources and continuous learning modules for coaches at all levels.
Dedicated program for promoting sitting volleyball. We organize national camps and tournaments for athletes with disabilities. The Indian Para Volleyball team finished 5th at the 2023 Asia-Oceania Championships, and we aim for Paralympic qualification by 2028.
